Baby Breeze sling review

When pregnant with my tiny Teddy, I researched everything to bits - including the best sling to buy for our lifestyle. For us, the Breeze Baby won hands down.

This is our story of why we decided on the Breeze Baby and how I have found using it over the past (almost) 14 months.

From the outset I knew I would be buying a sling. I loved that idea of carrying baby close to me…then I had baby and spent so many hours with him attached to me I went off it a little. Teddy, however, loved being kept close and I am so glad I invested in a sling for those early days - if only for the feeling I got when I successfully breastfed whilst hanging out the washing (I remember texting my husband at work saying I was now officially Supermum!).

Those early hospital and GP appointments (we saw the lactation consultant at RBWH a couple of times in the early weeks, plus the debrief with our amazing midwife…plus his tongue-tie snip…those early appointments added up fast!) were made so much easier. Tiny Teddy was actually tiny back then, so it relaxed me to have him snuggled against me. It meant he could doze off whenever he liked and I had both hands free to carry everything I needed to - although usually I had one hand tapping his little bottom (I still tend to rest one hand on him when he is in a carrier)!

SO…why the Breeze Baby? Well, we spend at least 3 weeks of the summer at the beach (I was raised on the Sunshine Coast and we holiday over Christmas with my family & then spend time with my husband's clan at their favourite holiday spot on the Goldie), not including the various weekends I spend with my family over the course of the year. The fabric of the Breeze Baby Sling is washable and breathable - making beach going easy, I could throw it in the wash and wouldn't collapse of heat stroke from carrying Teddy so close.

Continuing on the beach theme, we plan on extending our family and I wanted a sling I could wear at the beach with #2 so I have both hands free to chase an active Teddy around. As hubby is away so much, I need to be able to do beach/pool/swimming trips by myself safely with no hassles.

It is ring sling and these are so simple to use in general. No complicated straps to worry about and nothing to wrap or tie, it is foolproof. The Breeze Baby comes with extremely easy-to-follow instructions and there is a video demonstration online to make it even simpler to figure out.

SO…how much have I used it over the last year? This is mixed. Lots early on, as I talked about above. Then my extremely active bub became too wriggly! I have found slings in general to be easier with a compliant baby - tiny Teddy was certainly not. So we switched to an ErgoBaby carrier from about 4 months. Over summer it was great, as Teddy got better at being lugged around on my hip - the Breeze Baby saved my arm. Now, at (almost) 14 months the Breeze Baby has come into regular circulation again. Teddy is getting bigger and it is so much easier to pop him in the sling on my hip and duck down to the park…or jump out of the car and duck into the shop - I can use both hands to pay then carry a grocery bag then open the car…in fact, the Breeze Baby has a permanent place in the car now - I grab it out for the park trips on our way down the driveway!

As an aside, Teddy is tall for his age (think 90th + percentile since birth) and so using the sling is great as he will never grow out of it - well, not any time soon anyway! He will probably never be compliant enough to utilise the back-carry position (I use my ErgoBaby carrier for this purpose) but as long as I can carry him on my hip I don't mind. I have found the Breeze Baby to be well made - it will easily last #2 when the time comes (and #3 if we ever get there…).

In the end, I believe we have already got value for money and that means money well spent in my book.

Much love,
